What does War-N-Wit, Inc. stand for anyway?

Warlock and Witch? For real? Oh, yes! For real.

Her life as she knows it is over! Instead of organizing corporate documents and pleadings, she’s chasing bail jumpers and taking down serial killers. And investigating secret societies. Like Resurrection.

Not everyone can join, just the elite few who remember their past lives. Only the Seer knows if those memories are truth or fabrication. There’s just one problem. The new Seer is missing in action. War-N-Wit’s new assignment is a blast from the past! But whose past?

  character

Character Name: Ariel Anson Garrett

Character Bio: Ariel Anson was just sitting at her desk, doing her usual excellent job as a paralegal at the Middle Georgia law firm of Baker, Lawson, Abercrombie & Hunter. That’s BLAH for short. This particular job required the services of a private detective. Not just any private detective. This private detective was a warlock with an agenda all his own; to wit, finding the eternal soul mate he’d reincarnated with over many centuries. His witch. Life as Ariel knew it was over!

Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?

Well, my worst quality used to be settling for what’s comfortable rather than taking risks. But I’d have to say I’m pretty much over that now. In fact, I think my best quality now might be flexibility. Because believe me, sometimes survival depends on flexibility.

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

It’s not easy being me? Honestly, I can’t think of much. I pretty much blew any cover I had when I published the War-N-Wit, Inc. books. I’m now an “open book”, so to speak.

What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?

Seriously? I’ve told the world I’m a reincarnated witch, not to mention the Seer of the Tear of Isis—and that was a shocker, for sure—so I don’t much think I have too many secrets left.

What are you most afraid of?

Something horrible happening to the people I love. Something I can’t fix. Right now, that’s a pretty big list that of course includes my husband, my parents, my sister, my brother-in-law. But the War-N-Wit gang’s an extended family with lots of adopted members, including a whole Biker Club!

What do you want more than anything?

World peace. YES, for real! There are things pressing in on this world—well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be a good thing at all if the barriers separating the dimensions were breached. And that it takes LOTS of effort from LOTS of people—and non-people—to keep that from happening.

What is your relationship status?

Married. Extremely married. Eternally married, even.

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

I used to be a cross-blend of office casual and office chic. Now? I’m – flexible. A chameleon, you might say. Because in War-N-Wit, Inc.’s line of work, you have to blend in with the crowd. And that means whichever crowd you have to mingle with to get the job done. I mean, you have to wear what everybody else is wearing, you never want to stand out or call attention to yourself. Usually that’s great, ‘cause it means lots of jeans and tees or sweaters, depending on the time of year. But I’ve also been known to wear a waitress uniform on occasion. Though I guess my most unusual outfit was the nun’s habit I slipped into when I had to become Sister Mary Agrippa. With very short notice, I might add.

How much of a rebel are you?

Before I met my husband? Zero. Zilch. Nada. Totally responsible. Dutiful, even. Now? I got married on the back of a borrowed motorcycle in the Tunnel of Love Drive-Thru at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas. My mother was NOT happy, I’ll tell you that.

What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?

Being me, just as I am now, ‘cause it was a long and winding road to get here. That being said, I did kinda sorta save the world once…

What is your idea of happiness?

Living the life you were born – or reborn – to live with the person you were meant to live it with.

What is your current state of mind?

Contentment. Mixed with a bit of unease. Because trouble just follows us like a black cat. And it always finds us. Always.

What is your most treasured possession?

My husband.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I’m a very strong telepath. That means I don’t read minds, or anything like that, I read people. Who they really are, inside.

What is it that you, most dislike?

Cruelty. A cruel person is an evil person.

Which living person do you, most despise?

That’s got to be a gentleman who introduced himself as Oliver Hedgepath. He wasn’t the real Oliver Hedgepath, of course, the real Oliver’s a love. This fraud’s really known in magical circles by the name of “Legion”.

What is your greatest regret?

I don’t really regret anything, because everything that ever happens to anyone shapes who they became and who they are. Sometimes I wish I’d known who and what I really was a bit earlier but then again, would I appreciate it as much? I don’t think so.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Goodness. Real goodness.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Exactly the same thing. Real goodness. It’s not a “gender specific” quality.

Who is your favorite hero in fiction?

Merlin. Though I’m not so sure he was entirely fictional.

Which living person do you most admire?

My husband.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Honestly? I wouldn’t. I’m quite content in my own skin.

What is your motto?

There’s a little bit of magic in all of us.

Gail Roughton is a native of small town Georgia whose Deep South heritage features prominently in much of her work. She’s worked in a law office for close to forty years, during which time she’s raised three children and quite a few attorneys. She’s kept herself more or less sane by writing novels and tossing the completed manuscripts into her closet.

A cross-genre writer, she’s produced books ranging from humor to romance to thriller to horror and is never quite sure herself what to expect when she sits down at the keyboard. Now multi-published by Books We Love, Ltd., her credits include the War-N-Wit, Inc. series, The Color of Seven, Vanished, and Country Justice. Currently, she’s working on Black Turkey Walk, the second in the Country Justice series, as well as the Sisters of Prophecy series, co-written with Jude Pittman.

Another War-N-Wit plot always seems to be brewing on the back burner, too, whether she’s actually trying to brew one or not, and usually boils quicker when she’s trying not to brew one at all.
